12.Jan.2011 Tennoji Zoo, Shitennoji Temple, Tennoji Ku

I did some sightseeing on my last few days around the Tennoji ku, or ward area. It was an easy subway ride to get to the zoo and that’s where I started my day. The zoo was cheap but mostly geared toward elementary kids. I also thought some of the cages could have been a [...]

29.Nov.2010 Hirosaki Halloween Party

I went to a Halloween party in Hirosaki city. Some of the mount Hakkoda photos I took were on the way to this party. My costume was totally unoriginal I went for the Harry Potter look with lightning bolt and chopstick wand. Some of the other JETs costumes were way cooler and one person went [...]

Oirase Machi Salmon Festival

This was a lot of fun. Rianna one of the JETs in Towada city hooked us up with some tickets for only around 10 dollars Canadian to catch salmon. It was really cool and probably the best 10 dollars I’ve ever spent. It involved a giant flatbed truck dumping a whole load of live salmon [...]

How to Bike in Japan

Check out this video. I did some biking with my mama chari, (mama’s chariot). It’s cool to note some of the features of this bike. First there is a neat anti theft device with a key, a convenient basket and a generator with a light for biking at night. I used my bike to do [...]

02.Oct.2010 Takko Garlic Festival

I went to the Takko garlic festival on Saturday. There was this really hilarious sign that I put in the album that talks about a “tail of the procession” I think they mean end of the line. Also the guys in the suits in the photos are getting the meat ready from a cow which [...]

14.Sep.2010 Settled In

Well I’m working on getting more settled in. I have internet set up, my phone works and my house is more or less good to go. I know how to pay my bills and I’ve met a whole bunch of people and done most of my self introductions. I still have a lot to do. [...]

Earthquake!

So I finished my classes this afternoon, then all of a sudden there was an earthquake. I was really surprised when it happened. I was kind of bemused by the whole thing, but the office staff didn’t even miss a beat they just went right back to work and turned the TV on. It indicated [...]

12.Sep.2010 Inazo Nitobe

This is really cool. Okay so what are the odds? Inazo nitobe a pioneer of Japanese and western internationalization, just so happens to have lived in the town I was placed in. Also he has a memorial garden at my university. I was very shocked by this at first. What’s even cooler is I live [...]

Momo Ishi

Check out this giant statue. This is a 3/4 sized version on the statue of liberty, right in my very back yard in a nearby town called Oirase machi. This is very strange and I was surprised to find out that 2 of the worlds statue of liberty replicas are in Japan.

Towada Lake Festival

Check out these pictures from a festival that some of my students participated in at Towada lake. It was a really fun day and I’ll post some video that I took of some of the dancing and other demonstrations.

Peach Picking

Check out these pictures of our peach picking foray. The JET’s from Towada went down to Shichinohe (woops, Hachinohe actually) then we embarked on a tour bus. We rode the bus from Shichinohe made a few stops along the way and went peach picking. The trip was really fun and organized by a local group in [...]

After the JET BBQ Art Gallery Pictures

Here are some pictures I took outside the Towada Art Gallery. There is a giant marshmallow house, a puffy red car, and plentiful colourful mushrooms. Also at night one of the mushrooms turns into a giant spotlight. Take a look.
