29.Nov.2010 My 自己紹介 Self Introduction to 三本木小 Sanbongi Elementary School

I did a self introduction that will be published in a school newspaper for an elementary school in my catchment area. To put my job in perspective I have around 20 elementary and junior high schools that I visit regularly. Sanbongi is special because it is (a) near my house (b) is my semi-base school [...]

Driving through Hakkoda

Here are some photos I took from a second drive over to Hirosaki, where I passed through mount Hakodda. At that time the snow had already fallen and it was freezing!

Photos from my First Solo Trip to Hirosaki

Here are some photos I took from my first solo trip to Hirosaki. A few cool things to note is that I went around Lake Towada, and passed through parts of mount Hakkoda. This area is famous for the leaves changing colour and fall season especially around Lake Towada attracts a great many tourists. As [...]

Back in Action

Well I’ve been taking a bit of a break from posting on my blog. But I think it’s time to do a little some more writing. Basically over the last few weeks I’ve been busy with studying for the JLPT 日本語能力試験. I’m taking level 4, out of 5 levels, level 5 being the lowest and [...]

How to Bike in Japan

Check out this video. I did some biking with my mama chari, (mama’s chariot). It’s cool to note some of the features of this bike. First there is a neat anti theft device with a key, a convenient basket and a generator with a light for biking at night. I used my bike to do [...]

02.Oct.2010 Takko Garlic Festival

I went to the Takko garlic festival on Saturday. There was this really hilarious sign that I put in the album that talks about a “tail of the procession” I think they mean end of the line. Also the guys in the suits in the photos are getting the meat ready from a cow which [...]

Earthquake!

So I finished my classes this afternoon, then all of a sudden there was an earthquake. I was really surprised when it happened. I was kind of bemused by the whole thing, but the office staff didn’t even miss a beat they just went right back to work and turned the TV on. It indicated [...]

12.Sep.2010 Inazo Nitobe

This is really cool. Okay so what are the odds? Inazo nitobe a pioneer of Japanese and western internationalization, just so happens to have lived in the town I was placed in. Also he has a memorial garden at my university. I was very shocked by this at first. What’s even cooler is I live [...]

Momo Ishi

Check out this giant statue. This is a 3/4 sized version on the statue of liberty, right in my very back yard in a nearby town called Oirase machi. This is very strange and I was surprised to find out that 2 of the worlds statue of liberty replicas are in Japan.

Yayoi Night

Outside the Towada Art Gallery we had a dance event. Everyone got decked out in orange wigs and danced around in Yukata. I think the pictures can explain a lot better than I please enjoy.

Towada Lake Festival

Check out these pictures from a festival that some of my students participated in at Towada lake. It was a really fun day and I’ll post some video that I took of some of the dancing and other demonstrations.
